Apple Reveals Compensation Packages for New CEO John Ternus and Executive Chairman Tim Cook
Apple's new CEO, John Ternus, and executive chairman, Tim Cook, have had their compensation packages revealed by the company. According to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Ternus' target compensation for this fiscal year is approximately $58 million. This includes a $3 million annual salary and stock awards worth up to $55 million next year.
The value of these stock awards will rise or fall with Apple's share price. Ternus will also receive a prorated restricted stock unit, or RSU, award worth around $2.5 million in fiscal year 2026. This award is divided into two parts: 75% performance-based RSUs linked to Apple's total shareholder return relative to other companies in the S&P 500, and 25% time-based RSUs that vest over four years.
Cook will receive a $2 million annual salary and planned stock awards worth $45 million in fiscal 2027. His package includes both performance-based and time-based RSUs, with half of the award being performance-based. If Cook retires on or after the first anniversary of the grant date, he will still receive the shares but only on the original vesting dates.
Ternus' previous salary as senior VP was not disclosed by Apple, but it is estimated to be around $25 million. In contrast, Cook's pay package as CEO in 2025 was $74.3 million, including a $3 million salary and $57.5 million in stock awards.
