Apple Revives Server Hardware Business with AI-Focused Enterprise Server
Apple is reportedly reviving its server hardware business after a decade-long hiatus. The company is developing an AI-focused enterprise server using its M8 Ultra processors, which will integrate Nvidia's NVLink Fusion networking technology.
The proposed server configuration would feature either two or four units of Apple's upcoming M8 Ultra chipsets, representing the company's most powerful processor designs to date. This move aims to cater to the growing demand for computational resources from artificial intelligence developers, corporate enterprises, and government organizations.
This marks Apple's re-emergence in dedicated server hardware following the discontinuation of its Xserve product line in 2011. The new initiative coincides with the explosive growth in AI computing requirements, with Apple's Mac division experiencing a remarkable expansion in revenue, rising 29% year-over-year to reach $10.3 billion during its fiscal 2026 third quarter.
