Apple Rushes Patch for Broken Mac Email Amid Microsoft Exchange Shutdown
Microsoft is discontinuing its older Exchange Web Services (EWS) connection system in April 2027, which will break email and calendar syncing on Macs. The company began phasing out EWS in October 2026, but Apple's built-in Mail app still relies on it.
The shutdown only affects desktop and laptop software, as mobile devices like iPhones and iPads use a different method called Exchange ActiveSync (EAS), which Microsoft is keeping active.
Apple is working on a patch for the issue, set to be included in a future macOS 27 update. In the meantime, users can temporarily keep their old connection running by switching to an approved app or using the Outlook app until the permanent fix arrives.
