Apple Stock Drops as Market Sentiment Shifts Amid AI Focus
Apple's stock price took a hit on Wednesday, falling almost 1% as investors weighed in on the broader market. The Nasdaq dropped 1.05%, the S&P 500 fell 0.55%, and the Technology sector declined about 1%. Analysts pointed to increased risk-off pressure for the decline.
Despite this downturn, Apple's focus on artificial intelligence (AI) remains a key area of interest. The company recently launched new Mac mini and Mac Studio products featuring enhanced AI capabilities. These devices integrate Apple Intelligence and Siri AI through macOS 27, enabling faster performance and improved functionality.
Bhavtosh Vajpayee from CLSA sees smaller AI models as a potential game-changer for consumer AI adoption. He identifies Apple's smartphone ecosystem as an important gateway for this technology. Meanwhile, Morgan Stanley analyst Erik Woodring remains optimistic about Apple's upcoming Duo foldable and expects strong demand.
Woodring notes that Apple trades at a relatively rich valuation of around 33 times fiscal 2027 earnings, near its historical peak multiple. He warns that further stock gains may require higher earnings estimates or improved performance in the company's Services segment.
