Apple Takes Aim at Cloud AI Charges with New Macs
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is pitching its newest Macs as a way for businesses to run powerful AI models without paying per-token cloud charges, aiming at the economics behind the AI infrastructure boom.
According to Apple's hardware chief Johny Srouji, 'There’s no cost per token. You’re just using the machine again and again.'
The company demonstrated four Mac Studios running a trillion-parameter AI model together, which could operate from a single wall outlet.
This approach suggests that some inference workloads could shift away from rented data-center capacity and onto local machines, a strategy also pursued by Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA).
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has described the AI economy differently, saying 'Its tokens are productive and profitable. Now, compute is revenue.'
