Apple to Unveil Lighter MacBook Pro with Major Redesign and Touchscreen
Apple is preparing a major redesign for the MacBook Pro, with the new model expected to be significantly lighter than the current lineup. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the upcoming redesign will introduce notable weight reductions, making the laptop much easier to carry. While exact figures haven’t been revealed, the change is expected to be substantial enough to be noticeable in everyday use.
The new MacBook Pro will also feature several other upgrades, including a touchscreen for the first time ever, Tandem OLED displays, and a Dynamic Island inspired by the iPhone. These features have been rumored for months, but the focus on weight reduction is a fresh detail. The current 16-inch MacBook Pro weighs 4.8 pounds, while the 15-inch MacBook Air weighs 3.3 pounds, highlighting the gap Apple aims to address.
Apple is reportedly miniaturizing internal components and rearranging them to achieve the lighter design. The new machines will launch with the existing M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, rather than the anticipated M6 chips. This decision seems to be part of a strategy to accelerate the development of the M7 chips. Software updates will also be necessary, with macOS Golden Gate set to receive updates to support touch input and the Dynamic Island feature.
If the timeline holds, all these changes could be officially announced before the end of November.
