Apple has unveiled its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, at a starting price of $1,999 for 256GB of storage. The device features a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer screen, powered by Apple's A20 Pro chip.

The company claims that this new chip offers up to 35% better sustained performance than the iPhone 17 Pro. The Duo also includes a dual-battery architecture and 48-megapixel main and ultra-wide cameras, running iOS 27 with foldable-specific features such as side-by-side Split View multitasking.

Apple's CEO, John Ternus, stated that the iPhone Duo is 'the most transformational change to iPhone since the original'. The device will be available in more than 70 countries and regions starting October 23, with pre-orders beginning on October 16.

The iPhone Duo marks Apple's entry into the premium foldable smartphone market, where prices are pushing upwards. Notably, Apple did not introduce a standard iPhone 18 this year, instead focusing on higher-priced devices like the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, starting at $1,199 and $1,299 respectively.
