Ryder Cup Qualification Overhaul Focuses on Recent Results

The PGA of America has overhauled its qualification system for the 2027 Ryder Cup, shifting away from a points structure tied to prize money. Under the new system, qualifying will begin in January 2027 with The American Express tournament and conclude after the BMW Championship in August.

The top six eligible Americans following the BMW Championship will qualify automatically, while captain Jim Furyk will fill the remaining six spots on the roster through captain's selections.

Furyk cited changes in PGA Tour purses as a reason for eliminating prize money from the qualification process. Instead, fixed point values will be assigned based on each tournament's strength, with major championship winners earning 3,000 points and standard full-field Tour event champions receiving 1,500.
