The Apple Watch Series 12 and Google Pixel Watch 5 both hit the market with similar pricing, starting at $399 and $400 respectively. While they resemble their predecessors in design, both devices introduce significant hardware upgrades that enhance health-tracking capabilities. Apple’s latest model features improved sensors for more accurate readings and a dynamic Readiness Score that adjusts based on daily activities. Meanwhile, Google’s Pixel Watch 5 focuses on tracking vitals like blood pressure and insulin resistance, though these features await FDA clearance.

In terms of pricing, the Apple Watch Series 12 maintains the same starting price as last year’s Series 11, with options ranging from $399 for the aluminum GPS model to $799 for the ceramic version. The Pixel Watch 5, however, sees a $50 price increase over its predecessor, starting at $400 for the 41mm model. Both watches offer cellular functionality at an additional cost.

The design differences are notable, with the Apple Watch Series 12 sporting a rectangular OLED Retina display and a rotating Digital Crown. The Pixel Watch 5, on the other hand, features a round design with a seamless curved display and higher peak brightness. The Apple Watch boasts Ceramic Shield 2 for durability, while the Pixel Watch 5 uses Gorilla Glass 5, which may be more prone to scratches.

Software and health features set these watches apart. The Apple Watch Series 12 runs WatchOS 27 and offers a no-subscription model for all health features. It includes a revised sensor array for more frequent heart-rate readings and introduces Audio Intelligence for identifying music and transcribing conversations. The Pixel Watch 5 runs Wear OS 7 and requires a Google Health Premium subscription for some features, with promises of future updates like blood pressure and insulin resistance tracking.

Battery life is a key consideration, with both watches receiving efficiency boosts. The Apple Watch Series 12 is rated for up to 24 hours of regular use, extendable to 38 hours with Low Power mode. The Pixel Watch 5 comes with a 332-mAh battery for the 40mm version and a 465-mAh battery for the 45mm version, with claims of lasting all day.
