Apple's AI Private Play Doesn't Deter Nvidia's Data-Center Dominance
Nvidia's shares gained 0.7% to $229.08 as investors responded to Apple's announcement that its new Macs can run heavyweight AI privately, rather than relying on cloud infrastructure.
The demonstration showed four Mac Studios working together to run a trillion-parameter model using shared memory across the machines. However, Nvidia's core data-center revenue remains substantial, accounting for 92.5% of its $96.2 billion overall sales in the latest quarter.
The question is whether local AI will become a structural substitute for cloud inference or just another layer of the computing stack. Apple's move may chip away at some private and predictable workloads, but hyperscale training and massive networking demands remain Nvidia's territory.
