Apple's iPhone Duo: A New Chapter for Dual-Screen Devices
Microsoft's Surface Duo and Neo devices were once touted as revolutionary, dual-screen products that would change the game for Windows fans. However, after just one iteration of the Duo and no release at all for the Neo, Microsoft abandoned these projects, leaving them to gather dust in history books.
The irony is that Apple has now swooped in and reclaimed the 'Duo' name for its own devices, including a new iPhone model called the iPhone Duo. This device bears an uncanny resemblance to the original Surface Duo, with a thin folding design and pen support.
For some Windows fans, this may be seen as a slap in the face, especially given Microsoft's failure to innovate further on these products. The company had even started working on a third-gen Surface Duo, which would have pivoted to a single-screen folding setup. However, it seems that Microsoft couldn't see the potential of its unique devices.
The iPhone Duo may be seen as a better execution of the same concept, but for fans of the original Surface Duo, this is just salt in the wound. Apple's decision to co-opt the 'Duo' name has been met with criticism from some, who feel that Microsoft deserved to keep these innovative product names.
