Apple's iPhone Sales May Not Be Enough to Protect It From AI Rivalry
Apple's iPhone sales may not be enough to protect it from losing control over customer behavior. Bank of America analyst Wamsi Mohan warns that AI agents like Meta Platforms' Muse could disrupt Apple's dominance in this area.
Muse has already gained popularity, topping the App Store with 2.5 million downloads in its first weeks. The app allows users to purchase online, fill out forms, and make calls on behalf of customers. This integration with commerce platforms like Shopify, Expedia, and PayPal could give Muse a significant advantage over Siri AI.
Mohan notes that the agent owner receives routing economics from OS systems, search, and app marketplaces, which could put Apple in an awkward situation. The company may retain iPhone customers but lose some discovery, referral, and transaction activities to Muse.
