Apple's M5 Chips Give Nvidia a Run for Their Money in PC Gaming

Nvidia's graphics cards have long dominated PC gaming, but Apple's M5 chips are giving them a run for their money. In tests, the base M5 chip lagged behind Nvidia's RTX 4060 for laptops in terms of performance, achieving 42 to 63 FPS in 'Resident Evil Village' on high settings, while the RTX 4060 delivered 70 to 85 FPS.

However, the more powerful M5 Pro and M5 Max chips are a different story. According to Notebookcheck, the M5 Max is on par with the RTX 5070 for laptops, delivering between 91 and 103 FPS in 'Cyberpunk 2077' on Ultra graphics settings.

One reason Apple's M5 chips are able to hold their own against Nvidia's GPUs is optimization. Games designed for computers need to account for a variety of components working together, and sometimes weaker components can outperform more powerful alternatives due to coding quirks.
