Apple's Premium Valuation: A Bet on AI and Ecosystem Potential
Apple's stock price has been trading at a premium among its peers, but its growth and profit metrics tell a different story. The company's price-to-earnings multiple of 35.4 is higher than any other in its group, yet it trails behind its competitors in terms of revenue growth.
According to Trefis, Apple's 14.2% revenue growth over the last twelve months ranks fifth among its peers, with Dell Technologies and Alphabet posting growth rates of 39% and 20%, respectively. Microsoft also outpaced Apple, growing revenue at 17.8%.
The story is similar on profitability, with Apple's operating margin of 33% ranking second in the group, but still substantially behind Microsoft's commanding 47% margin.
The market is paying a top-of-the-group price for a company whose recent performance on key metrics sits in the middle or near the bottom of that same group. However, management is 'off the charts excited about Siri AI' and believes it has the potential to ignite a new wave of hardware upgrades.
