Apple's recent iPhone lineup launch has been met with excitement globally, but it has also stirred concerns in India. The tech giant has entered the foldable smartphone market with the iPhone Duo and increased prices across all its models.

The price hikes are attributed to higher component costs, particularly memory chips, as well as import duties and taxes on components. However, the increases have been steeper than usual in India, where Apple's growth potential is significant.

India has emerged as a key market for Apple, with revenue exceeding $10 billion in the previous fiscal year. The Indian smartphone market is expected to grow at 10.5% annually through 2030, reaching $341 billion by the end of the decade. However, Apple's pricing strategy may hinder its growth in this lucrative market.

The base variant of the iPhone 18 Pro costs 164,900 Indian rupees (INR) or $1,725 at current exchange rates, which is 44% higher than the US price. The older iPhone 17 has been hiked by 21% to $1,045, while the cheapest iPhone model, the iPhone 17e, now costs $836 for the base variant.
