Apple's Record Sales Can't Shield Stock from Missed Estimates
Apple's stock price has been affected by Tim Cook's final earnings call as CEO on July 30, where he announced record-breaking sales and a new AI-enhanced Siri feature.
The company reported revenue of $109.4 billion, a 16% increase from the previous quarter, with iPhone sales up 22%. This marks the third consecutive quarter of over 20% growth in iPhone sales since the pandemic upgrade cycle.
However, Apple's services segment fell short of expectations, missing estimates by $480 million, but Cook described this as a 'one-quarter blip' rather than a structural issue. The company also missed estimates on its revenue from China, which has been impacted by Huawei's recovery and potential iPhone switchers.
John Ternus will take over as CEO on September 1, succeeding Tim Cook, who will transition to Executive Chairman. The company is expected to launch its AI-enhanced Siri feature at an Apple event in September, marking Ternus' first product launch as CEO.
