Apple’s Strong Growth Faces Valuation Scrutiny Amid Premium Stock Price
Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) recently reported a fiscal third-quarter 2026 revenue of $109.4 billion, marking a 16% increase. Despite this impressive growth, analysts project only an 8.51% rise in earnings per share for 2027, while the stock trades at a high multiple of 37.69 times forward earnings.
The company's strength lies in its diverse product ecosystem, including iPhones, Macs, iPads, AirPods, and Apple Watches, as well as its service offerings like the App Store, Apple Music, and Apple TV. The growing installed base of active devices across all major categories and geographic segments reinforces customer loyalty and drives continued sales.
Apple's latest quarter showed record revenue across iPhone, Mac, and Services, with double-digit growth in every geographic segment. The company is also investing in AI, introducing a new Siri AI and child safety features at its developer conference. Operating cash flow and EPS also hit June-quarter records, supporting a $0.27 quarterly dividend.
However, concerns arise from the gross margin of 50.1%, with about 2 percentage points coming from tariff refunds. This suggests that underlying margins may be lower, and the 29% EPS growth might not be sustainable. Despite this, revenue growth of 16% indicates strong demand.
At 37.69 times forward earnings, Apple's stock trades well above the sector average and its own 5-year average. This premium multiple raises questions about whether the company can justify its valuation, especially with expected earnings growth below recent revenue growth. Long-term investors may find the stock attractive, but those seeking a lower multiple might be cautious.
