Applied Materials, Merck Pump ₹4,613 Crore into Karnataka's Semiconductor and Life Sciences Sectors
Karnataka state has attracted significant investments in the semiconductor and life sciences sectors. US-based Applied Materials plans to invest ₹3,600 crore in a project focused on research and development, manufacturing of semiconductor equipment, and software technologies used in chip production.
The project is expected to create 1,000 jobs and will be located at Bengaluru Signature Business Park. The state cabinet approved the allotment of 140 acres to Applied Materials on a lease-cum-sale basis for ₹780 crore.
Additionally, Merck has committed to investing €13 million to expand its manufacturing facility in Jigani, Bengaluru. This expansion will enable local production of biological buffers used in DNA research and other applications.
Karnataka industries minister MB Patil also held discussions with investors from the Netherlands and various companies on potential investments.
