AR Directions Arrive on Google Maps Without Its Cuddly Fox Guide

Google Maps has finally rolled out its Augmented Reality (AR) directions feature on Pixel Phones, as promised at last year's I/O developer conference. The new feature allows users to hold their camera up to the street and receive helpful specifics about their surroundings, such as distance and direction.

However, there is a notable difference between what was showcased at the 2018 demo and the actual AR feature: an animated fox that guides users along their path. According to CNET, this lil' furry friend has been left out of the final product.

The reason for its absence? Users reportedly felt let down by its limited functionality as a mere map guide. They were expecting it to show them fun things, but instead, it only provided basic navigation assistance.
