Archer Aviation Acquires Boeing Subsidiaries in eVTOL Push
Archer Aviation has made significant strides in its bid to become a leading player in the electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft market. The company recently announced that it is acquiring three subsidiaries from Boeing: Wisk Aero, Insitu, and SkyGrid.
The deal, which will see Archer issue new stock to fund the acquisition, will give Boeing a 16.75% equity stake in the company. While this may seem like a substantial dilution for current shareholders, it comes with several benefits, including access to advanced autonomous flight software and technology-sharing agreements.
Insitu, one of the subsidiaries being acquired, generates over $200 million in annual revenue and operates in 35 countries. This acquisition will significantly boost Archer's sales profile and improve its margin profile. The integration of Insitu, SkyGrid, and Wisk into Archer's business is expected to provide valuable infrastructure that supports growth opportunities in eVTOL aircraft development.
The partnership with Boeing and the integration of these subsidiaries are seen as strategic moves by Archer to become a diversified platform with a strong revenue base. While Archer's stock price has surged following the announcement, some analysts have expressed caution, noting that the company still faces significant challenges in achieving profitability.
