Archer Aviation Buys Boeing's Autonomous Flight Assets
Archer Aviation has made a major acquisition in the aerospace industry by purchasing Boeing's Wisk Aero, Insitu, and SkyGrid subsidiaries. The deal was announced on August 10, 2026, and is expected to close by the end of the year pending an antitrust review.
The purchase price was not disclosed, but Boeing will take an equity stake in Archer Aviation and have a nominee on its board. This move allows Boeing to capitalize on its investments in autonomous flight technology without carrying the development risk.
Wisk Aero is a leader in electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, with over 1,700 flight tests conducted over 16 years. Insitu, on the other hand, has a profitable drone business that generates over $200 million in revenue per year and has operations in 35 countries.
The acquisition is seen as a strategic move by Archer Aviation to become a diversified aerospace-and-defense player with a strong portfolio of autonomous flight technologies.
