Archer Aviation Lands Major Deal with Boeing Acquisition
Archer Aviation has announced a major deal to acquire three aviation technology units from Boeing. The company will gain control of Wisk Aero, SkyGrid, and Insitu subsidiaries as part of the agreement.
The acquisition is expected to expand Archer's presence in autonomous flight, electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, unmanned aircraft systems, and air traffic management technologies.
Wisk has developed autonomous eVTOL aircraft with over 1,700 flight tests across six generations of aircraft, while Insitu develops uncrewed aircraft systems for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance. SkyGrid provides ground-based air traffic management technology to support automated airspace.
The combined technologies from the three businesses have nearly two million flight hours, according to Archer. The company plans to integrate these autonomy technologies into its ZEE artificial intelligence platform.
Archer CEO Adam Goldstein described the transaction as a major step towards expanding the company beyond its existing air taxi business.
