Archer County Residents Oppose Google's Proposed Data Center Project
Residents in Archer County, Texas, are fighting against a proposed Google data center project called Project Raptor. The development would occupy approximately 2,500 acres along Three Way Road and has raised concerns about its potential impact on the neighborhood.
Megan Atchison, an organizer of the Stop the Archer County Data Center group, said that the data center is 'an industrial monstrosity' and 'trying to go in our backyard.' Residents expressed worries about noise pollution and other issues related to the development's proximity to their homes.
The project has also sparked environmental concerns, with Dynamo Ventures applying for a permit to operate a wastewater treatment plant that would allow for the discharge of treated wastewater. Atchison encouraged residents to submit public comments on the permits and request a public meeting before the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) makes a decision.
State Rep. James Frank, who represents House District 69, supports the data center project in Wichita Falls but opposes it in Archer County due to its location in a neighborhood rather than an industrial park. He has contacted the governor's office and TCEQ in an effort to stop the project and plans to pursue legislation during the upcoming legislative session.
