Arcos Dorados' Record Profits Can't Lift Stock Amid Emerging Market Risks
Arcos Dorados Holdings Inc., the largest independent McDonald's franchisee in Latin America and the Caribbean, reported record profits but its stock still lagged behind. The company's revenue grew due to system-wide sales expansion, digital and delivery penetration, menu pricing, and franchising income.
Despite achieving a gain of 11.6% over the past year, Arcos Dorados' stock underperformed the broader US market by around 8-9%. The company's growth prospects are tied to organic same-store sales growth and gradual net new openings, with Brazil being a significant swing factor in its performance.
The company's exclusive master franchise arrangement with McDonald's provides it with scale advantages in procurement, advertising, and digital investment. Its moderate leverage of around 1.2x net debt to LTM adjusted EBITDA leaves room for reinvestment or buybacks if management wants.
