Arkansas Pastor Harold Russell Dies at Age 88
Brother Harold L. Russell, an Arkansas pastor, passed away on August 12, 2026, at the age of 88.
Russell spent more than 40 years in ministry, pastoring six churches: Clear Springs Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Black Rock, New Antioch, New Hope, White Oak, and Strawfloor. He also served as a volunteer chaplain at St. Bernard's Medical Center and NEA Memorial Hospital.
After his retirement from full-time ministry, Russell continued to serve the community through his 'Matthew 5:16 Ministry,' which involved visiting local stores like Kroger, Walmart, Lowe's, and Home Depot, as well as McDonald's, where he would greet customers and employees, lend a hand, and share the gospel with them.
Russell is survived by his wife of 68 years, Viola Russell; two children, Sandra Alstadt (Tod) and Randy Russell (Minnie); two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Wes Russell; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be held at Smithville Baptist Church on August 16, 2026.
