Mangione Pleas Guilty to Killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Thompson

Luigi Mangione's guilty plea in federal court marked a significant milestone for the family of Brian Thompson, who was fatally shot outside a Manhattan hotel in December 2024.

The UnitedHealthcare CEO's family attended the hearing on August 14 and released a statement through People, recognizing the importance of the case reaching this stage.

They acknowledged that nothing can ease the pain of losing Thompson but expressed gratitude for the federal justice system holding Mangione accountable.

Mangione faces sentencing in connection with his plea, which has triggered a legal dispute over the viability of the state case. His attorneys argued that double jeopardy protections should prevent him from being prosecuted again for the same death.
