Artists Collaborate with Google to Explore Philosophy, Psychology, and AI
Two artists, Xin Liu and Eunjo Lee, have collaborated on an online artist residency project that explores the intersection of philosophy, psychology, and AI. The project was sponsored by LAS Art Foundation in collaboration with Google Arts & Culture Lab.
Liu's artwork, 'nom nom,' delves into how collective intelligence arises when millions of small particles interact. She drew upon research from Googler researchers Blaise Agüera y Arcas and Alexander Mordvintsev on artificial life and emergent computation, as well as Neural Cellular Automata (NCAs).
Lee's 'In Your Eyes, Before My Own' combines ancient philosophy, linguistics, and modern psychology to reveal the philosophical and psychological underpinnings of our physical and digital existence. She used Google AI tools to convert hand-drawn sketches into 3D assets and layered motion-captured choreography onto characters.
The residency aimed to support artists in exploring digital world-building and simulating living systems using Google AI tools.
