A new study by IBM has revealed that nearly three in ten organizations across Asean have experienced AI-driven malicious attacks, resulting in significant financial losses.

The report, which analyzed data from 26 organizations between March 2025 and February 2026, found that the average cost of a data breach in the region was $4.12 million in 2026, the highest level recorded so far.

Organizations that use AI and security automation extensively reported lower average breach costs of $3.66 million compared to those with no such tools, which averaged $4.86 million.

The study also found that critical infrastructure sectors such as financial services, industrial organizations, and communications organizations reported the highest average breach costs, ranging from $5.99 million to $6.53 million.
