Ask Maps Gets Smarter with Agentic Capabilities and Real-Time Transit Info

Google Maps has announced significant updates to its 'Ask' feature, which is now known as Ask Maps. The changes aim to make it easier for users to get more done with their queries. Miriam Daniel, VP & GM of Google Maps, highlighted the improvements in a recent blog post.

The new features include agentic food ordering capabilities, real-time transit information, and Personal Intelligence. With agentic capabilities, Ask Maps can now handle complex tasks on behalf of users. For example, if you want to order takeout before leaving work, you can simply ask Ask Maps to 'order spicy pad kee mao with seafood for me to pick up on my way home.' It will then find open restaurants along your route that serve what you're craving and consider any dietary restrictions.

The food ordering feature is currently rolling out in the US, with over 150 countries and territories set to follow. Ask Maps can also compare real-time prices and check availability for hotels and local events. For instance, you can ask it to 'find me a decently priced, top-rated hotel with an artsy vibe, within walking distance from a gym and restaurants' in downtown Miami.
