Ask Maps streamlines place research directly within Google Maps
Google Maps has recently introduced a feature called Ask Maps that allows users to gather detailed information about places without leaving the app. Judy Sanhz, a consumer technology writer, shares her experience with this new tool, highlighting its convenience and efficiency. Instead of switching to other apps or search engines, Ask Maps provides insights like popular items, crowd levels, and parking availability directly within Google Maps.
For instance, Sanhz used Ask Maps to research a local coffee shop. The feature summarized key complaints from reviews, identified popular menu items, and even showed pictures. It also provided real-time information about crowd levels and parking ease. This saved her the hassle of reading through numerous reviews manually.
Ask Maps also integrates with users' saved spots, making it easier to find previously saved locations or places they have interacted with before. It offers personalized responses, including details like whether a user has reviewed a place and when they first searched for it. Additionally, it provides walking directions and estimates travel time, making trip planning more straightforward.
However, Sanhz noted that Ask Maps can make mistakes. For example, she did not get the results she wanted the first time she used it. Despite this, she appreciates the time-saving benefits of the feature, which allows her to check routes, weather conditions, and optimal departure times all within Google Maps.
