Atlantic's Google Traffic Shift Yields More Subscribers
The Atlantic has seen a decline in traffic referrals from Google, but is making up for it by converting more of those visitors into paid subscribers. According to CEO Nicholas Thompson, 'Google is sending us fewer people who aren’t going to subscribe.' Despite this, The Atlantic has continued to grow its subscriber base, now boasting 1.6 million paid members.
This achievement comes after the publication reported being in the black since 2024. In another development, The Atlantic has begun receiving micropayments from Parallel Web Systems, an AI startup that builds web search infrastructure for non-human AI agents.
