Atlas Air Ditches Boeing for Airbus Amid Fleet Renewal Delays
Atlas Air, one of the world's largest freighter operators, has broken its long-standing relationship with Boeing and placed an order for 20 Airbus A350Fs. The airline needed a new fleet to replace its aging Boeing 747s, which are becoming less efficient due to rising maintenance costs and stricter emissions standards.
The decision is attributed to Boeing's delays in delivering the 777-8F, which was expected to enter service around 2025 but has now slipped to 2028. Atlas Air needs a new fleet to maintain its global capacity and roughly 13% share of the widebody freighter market.
The order for Airbus A350Fs gives Atlas Air the flexibility it needs while Boeing works to bring its next-generation freighter to market. The A350F has been engineered with future emissions standards in mind, making it a more sustainable option for the airline.
