August Windows 11 Update Breaks Printers and PDFs

Microsoft has acknowledged that its August Windows 11 update, KB5120708, is causing problems for users. The issue lies in a faulty .NET Framework update, which affects applications' ability to print documents or save PDF and XPS files.

The problem stems from the use of certain fonts, including Calibri, which triggers FileFormatException errors.

Microsoft has confirmed that this issue is not exclusive to Windows 11 itself but rather affects the .NET Framework. The company recommends using a temporary workaround by enabling an AppContext switch in the app config file.

This switch disables security protections introduced in the August update and may increase exposure to vulnerabilities addressed by it. Microsoft advises using this workaround only as a temporary measure to address the issue, pending a permanent fix.
