An Austin man has been arrested for allegedly attacking a 79-year-old victim with a hatchet at a Hutto Home Depot.

The incident occurred on Friday, August 14th, around 5 p.m. at the store located in the 600 block of W. US 79.

According to police, John Doyle Bauer, 41, attacked the victim with a hatchet before fleeing the scene. The victim was taken to the hospital by Williamson County EMS and is listed as being in critical but non-life-threatening condition.

Bauer was found about 3.5 miles north of the Home Depot near the intersection of County Road 119 and Chandler Road, and was arrested shortly after.

Police have stated that this appears to be an 'unprovoked and random' attack with no known association between Bauer and the victim.
