Austrian Airlines Speeds Up Long-Haul Fleet Overhaul with Early Boeing 767-300ER Retirement
Austrian Airlines is accelerating its long-haul fleet modernization by retiring its Boeing 767-300ER aircraft earlier than planned. The airline's parent company, Lufthansa Group, aims to streamline operations and reduce maintenance costs across key transatlantic routes.
The three remaining active 767-300ER airframes will be phased out by the end of 2026, a year ahead of the original schedule. This decision marks an operational pivot towards unified, fuel-efficient intercontinental platforms.
Austrian Airlines' spokesperson noted that retiring the aging twin-engine aircraft represents a major milestone in their fleet modernization strategy. The move will enhance overall operational efficiency and provide passengers with a superior, eco-friendly travel experience.
