Avatar Land Delayed as Disney Prioritizes Disneyland Overhaul
The long-awaited Avatar land at Disney California Adventure has been postponed in favor of Disneyland's Tomorrowland overhaul. Despite this, Disney officials have confirmed that the project is still moving forward and shared new concept art of the land's centerpiece.
The Avatar land will be based on James Cameron's upcoming films, including 'Avatar: The Way of Water' and 'Avatar: Fire and Ash'. It will feature a boat ride that takes guests through both indoor and outdoor environments, complete with thrilling and calm moments.
Disney has also revealed plans to build the Eastern Gateway, a transportation hub east of the theme parks, which will include a 6,000-space parking deck and security checkpoint. This project is expected to pave the way for future construction steps in the Avatar land.
The timeline for the Avatar land's opening remains uncertain, but it was previously predicted to open between 2030 and 2031. With the postponement, it's likely that the project will be delayed further.
