Avengers Infinity Defense Ride Unveiled at Disney California Adventure
The Avengers Infinity Defense attraction is set to debut in 2028 as part of the expansion of Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure, which will double the size of the Marvel-themed land. According to Kevin Feige, president and chief creative officer of Marvel Studios, 'This is much bigger than most people are anticipating.'
The ride was first announced in 2019 with a different concept, featuring an all-new ride system unlike any attraction at a Disney theme park. The original plan was for riders to board the Avengers Quinjet and embark on a mission to Wakanda alongside the team of superheroes.
In 2021, the Avengers Campus opened without the E-ticket ride, but with other Marvel-themed attractions. It wasn't until 2022 that Imagineering went 'back to the drawing board' to develop an entirely new concept for a Marvel Multiverse E-Ticket attraction where the Avengers would battle King Thanos.
The new ride vehicle design combines elements of Tony Stark's time-suits with Xandarian jump points and Wakandan technology, allowing riders to travel through portal technology and visit different worlds in the Marvel multiverse. The backstory created for the attraction is that the Avengers are developing new technology that will allow Avengers Campus to become the hub of a new multi-world mission spanning the universe.
