Avery Howell's Stock Soars in ESPN Re-Rank
Avery Howell, a talented guard for the Washington Huskies, has seen her stock rise significantly in ESPN's re-rank of the high school class of 2024. The McDonald's All-American was previously ranked as the No. 16 recruit in the country when she committed to USC before transferring to Washington after her freshman season.
Howell's improved shooting and competitive nature have contributed to her rise in ranking, with ESPN's Shane Laflin noting that she has developed into an elite 3-and-D role player. Her 43.1% three-point shooting percentage is the 18th-best among returning Division I players.
As a junior, Howell averaged 14.2 points per game and led her team in rebounding with 8.3 boards per contest. She was also second on her team in scoring behind rising senior Sayvia Sellers. With three of their four leading scorers from last season returning, Washington is expected to push for hosting a regional.
The Huskies have added North Carolina State transfer Tilda Trygger at center, who scored 10.6 points per game, further bolstering their starting lineup.
