Avid Brings Media Composer to the Browser via Google Cloud Partnership
Avid and Google Cloud have expanded their partnership to bring Avid Media Composer, the company's flagship video editing platform, directly to the browser. This move aims to empower creative teams to collaborate securely from anywhere, automating repetitive tasks and focusing on storytelling. The integration of Gemini Enterprise and BigQuery into Avid's post-production environment enables editors to remove the constraints of physical hardware and administrative friction.
New research by Avid shows that 79% of professional editors are already using AI in their workflows, with speech-to-text and transcription being the most common use cases. However, 63% emphasize the importance of integrating AI more seamlessly into established professional environments to be truly useful.
The joint announcement highlights four core pillars of technology integration: browser-based Media Composer and agentic editing, semantic search in Content Core to speed up media discovery, connected workflows from newsroom to timeline, and flexible, secure hybrid cloud deployment. Avid and Google Cloud will demonstrate these end-to-end agentic workflows at IBC2026 in Amsterdam from Sept. 11-14.
Wellford Dillard, CEO of Avid, stated that 'customers are asking for intelligent tools that plug seamlessly into existing workflows and scale with their creativity.' Anil Jain, global managing director of Strategic Industries at Google Cloud, added that 'Avid has always been a media technology pioneer, and this partnership solidifies its leadership in adopting advanced AI for film and television.'
