AWS Dominance Erodes as Google Cloud Gains Ground in Global Cloud Market Share

The global cloud market share has seen significant changes in Q2 2026, according to new data from Synergy Research Group.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) remains the dominant leader with a 28% share of the global cloud market, but its share fell two points year over year. Google Cloud, on the other hand, gained two points in market share compared to Q2 2025, reaching 15%. Microsoft's share remained flat at around 20-21%.

The global enterprise spending on cloud infrastructure services reached $143 billion in Q2 2026, a 43% increase year over year. John Dinsdale, chief analyst at Synergy Research Group, attributed the growth to AI technology, stating that 'AI technology has lit a fire under the cloud market and is now driving unprecedented growth.'

AWS generated $42.2 billion in revenue during Q2 2026, a 37% increase year over year, while Google Cloud's revenue reached $24.8 billion with an 82% year-over-year growth rate.
