AWS Pledges $1 Billion for Data Center Communities Amid AI Infrastructure Backlash
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has pledged to invest over $1 billion in U.S. communities hosting its data centers over the next five years.
The investment will fund education, job training, energy affordability, and water and energy preservation initiatives.
AWS has also vowed to address the environmental impacts of its facilities, aiming to become 'water positive' by 2030.
With large projects underway in states including Indiana, Louisiana, North Carolina, Virginia, and Mississippi, AWS is seeking to counter criticism tied to environmental, energy, and economic concerns.
