AWS Puts $1B Behind Synopsys Chip Design Licensing Deal

Synopsys and Amazon Web Services have entered into a multi-year deal worth over $1 billion for Synopsys to license chip design intellectual property to AWS.

The deal focuses on blueprints optimized for specific types of chips, including computing cores, which are more complex designs compared to common parts of chips.

AWS will use these licensed blueprints for its own chip designs, such as its Graviton central processors and Trainium AI chips.
