AWS QuickSight Introduces Hierarchy Filter for Easier Data Exploration
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has introduced a new feature called the hierarchy filter in QuickSight, its fully managed business intelligence service. This allows authors to offer rich, multi-level filtering in a single compact control.
The traditional method of using multiple filters can clutter the interface and require too many steps for readers to apply them. The hierarchy filter solves this problem by reducing visual clutter, allowing readers to drill down a logical path with fewer steps, and enabling mix-and-match selection of levels within the hierarchy.
According to AWS, the hierarchy filter supports deep hierarchies up to five levels without adding independent filter controls that crowd the toolbar. This prevents reader confusion as the hierarchy encodes knowledge about relationships between levels, making the dashboard self-guiding.
