AWS Secures Billion-Dollar Chip Deal to Boost Enterprise AI Applications
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is making significant strides in its custom silicon chip business, which has become a major growth driver for the company. AWS has secured a billion-dollar chip deal with Synopsys, a chip designer that has collaborated closely with AWS over the past few years. This partnership aims to create new chips designed as 'application-optimized solutions,' enhancing the performance, security, and efficiency of enterprise applications in the AI economy.
The demand for more powerful and faster chips is aligned with the increasing use of agentic AI and enterprise applications by business customers. AWS's custom silicon chip business has achieved an annualized run rate of $25 billion, contributing to the company's resurgence. In the quarter ending June 30th, AWS reported a 37% growth rate, the highest in several years. New numbers for Q3 are expected later this month or in early November.
