Axis Bank Brings Apple Pay to Visa and Mastercard Customers in India

Axis Bank has launched Apple Pay for its Visa and Mastercard credit card customers in India. This move makes it the first Indian bank to offer this service, enabling payments at merchants, within apps, and online using Apple devices such as iPhone, Apple Watch, and iPad. The bank said that support for Mac will be available soon.

Axis Bank's Mastercard and Visa credit card customers can add their cards to Apple Wallet through the bank's mobile banking application or directly through Apple Wallet. Once added, customers can use Apple Pay while continuing to receive rewards and benefits offered on their Axis Bank cards.

The bank emphasized that security and privacy are key features of Apple Pay. The actual card number is not stored on the device or Apple servers, but instead a unique Device Account Number is encrypted and stored in the Secure Element.

Amitabh Chaudhry, MD & CEO, Axis Bank, said that this launch provides greater choice and flexibility to the bank's credit card customers. Jennifer Bailey, Apple's vice president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet, also expressed excitement about bringing Apple Pay to users in India.
