Azure Payment HSM v2 Brings Cloud-Based Security to Financial Institutions
Microsoft's Azure cloud platform has made a significant move into payment security with its new Azure Payment HSM v2 service. This managed payment-security service combines Marvell's LiquidSecurity hardware with Utimaco's Atalla payment module, providing financial institutions with a cloud-based way to protect payment keys, encryption, and transaction security.
The service is available in the public preview stage in West US and Western Europe, but pricing, customer contracts, and expected revenue have not been disclosed by Microsoft. This lack of transparency makes it difficult to quantify the near-term financial impact of this new service.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding its pricing and revenue, Azure Payment HSM v2 has the potential to deepen Azure's grip on highly regulated customers and create another layer of recurring cloud spending for Microsoft. The company's cloud business generated $59.3 billion in revenue, accounting for roughly 65.9% of its latest quarterly earnings.
