Azure Revenue Figures Revealed as Microsoft Shifts Business Segments
Microsoft has finally assigned a dollar value to Azure, its cloud computing platform, in its quarterly earnings report. The company reported $29.4 billion in revenue from Azure for the latest quarter and $101.9 billion for the fiscal year ended June 30th.
This move is significant as it provides analysts with a baseline to compare Azure's performance with that of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud, which have previously been difficult to gauge due to growth-rate terms only.
Microsoft also announced a reorganization of its business segments from three to two: 'Agents and Infra' (cloud infrastructure, AI software, and other business software) and 'Devices and Consumer' (Windows, Xbox, and advertising across Bing and LinkedIn).
The company made some changes in how it classifies certain sales, which slightly lowered its Azure revenue forecast. However, it left its overall current-quarter outlook unchanged.
