Bali Launches 'Recycle Me' Initiative with Coca-Cola and M-Mart

Coca-Cola System Indonesia and M-Mart have launched a joint initiative called 'Recycle Me' in Bali, aiming to increase recycling rates and reduce waste. The program provides PET bottle drop boxes at 20 M-Mart stores across the island, allowing consumers to return used packaging for recycling.

Bali faces significant waste management challenges, with the National Waste Management Information System showing that the province generates around 1.25 million tons of waste annually, including over 17% plastic waste. The 'Recycle Me' initiative involves collaboration across the entire packaging value chain, from brands and manufacturers to retailers, recyclers, and consumers.

Coca-Cola Indonesia has used recycled PET (rPET) in its packaging portfolio since 2023, and the company hopes that 'Recycle Me' will encourage public participation and inspire more collaborative efforts to reduce waste. The collected PET bottles will be handled by Mahija Parahita Nusantara before being processed by Amandina Bumi Nusantara, a recycling facility established through a joint venture between CCEP Indonesia and Dynapack Asia.
