Bangladesh Carrier Orders 11 More Boeing Jets to Meet Capacity Needs
Biman Bangladesh Airlines has made significant strides in its fleet expansion plans by ordering 11 more Boeing aircraft, bringing its total commitments to the US manufacturer to 25 jets. This move follows a commitment announced by the Bangladeshi government last year during negotiations over tariffs with the United States.
The new agreement includes five Boeing 787-10s and six 737 MAX 8s, which will further bolster Biman's Dreamliner fleet. The airline has already ordered eight 787-10s, two 787-9s, and four 737 MAX 8s in April.
The combined orders amount to 15 Dreamliners and 10 737 MAX 8s, with the total number of aircraft matching a commitment made by Bangladesh in July 2025. The agreement was signed in New York during the United Nations General Assembly, with senior officials from both countries in attendance.
The expansion is aimed at addressing capacity needs and expanding Biman's network. The airline currently has a relatively small fleet, with an average age of 11.7 years. The new aircraft will significantly change this balance, with Biman set to operate 23 Dreamliners if the current aircraft remain in service when deliveries are completed.
