Bangladesh Chooses Boeing for Asian Aviation Ambitions
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir clarified that Bangladesh's purchase of Boeing aircraft is driven by the needs of the aviation sector, not external pressure. The government aims to develop Bangladesh into an Asian aviation hub, requiring a larger fleet to increase revenue and passenger numbers.
Kobir mentioned that Bangladesh needs to operate services on more routes to become a key regional gateway, necessitating 70-80 aircraft over the next 10-15 years. From this perspective, the current requirement may seem small, but the country must meet aviation sector demand and develop into a hub for routes connecting Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and beyond.
Asked if Bangladesh currently has the financial capacity for the purchase, Kobir stated that acquisitions will continue based on need and purchasing capacity. The government must balance its budget with the demands of developing its aviation industry.
